| Southsea Common |
This jewel in Southsea's crown runs for a mile along the seafront and ensures that redevelopment will never scar the seafront. It has played its part in all major events in Portsmouth from the days of Henry VIII right up to the D-Day memorial celebrations. At the west end is a children's playground, midway are bowling greens, tennis courts, crazy golf and the skateboard park. The eastern end is mostly laid to ornamental flower gardens. To the south are the Sea-Life Centre, the D-Day Museum, Southsea Castle and Castle Field which hosts a variety of events throughout the summer. There is plenty of parking along the seafront and at the car park adjacent to Clarence Pier, but it does get very busy in summer. |
